A fine trumpeter influenced by Freddie Hubbard and Miles Davis, Terumasa Hino has long been one of Japan's best jazz musicians. A professional since 1955, Hino has mostly become known to Americans since the 1970s due to his Enja recordings, although some of his albums were made available domestically by Catalyst, Inner City, and Blue Note. He moved to the U.S. in 1975, where he worked with Gil Evans, Jackie McLean, Dave Liebman, and Elvin Jones. Hino spent more of his time in Japan after the early '80s, and recorded in several different styles ranging from straight-ahead to fusion.

Very rare album and exceptionally beautiful recording.

    OMG Vitko! Just had to come back and share that this is REALLY fine. It is hard to categorize . . . it makes me think of Miles during the early '70's but it is clearly Hino's thing. This is one of the finest works from 1975 that I have heard. Many many thanks for sharing this. The fidelity is awesome. Give this one a listen yall!Mtume on percussion is quite delightful. Solid effort by 1st trumpet of Japan.

    Yes, master Hino is a fantastic trumpeter and behind it is a huge work, a lot of very good and exciting albums, but this one is truly something special. It is a true rarity. For years I searched for this recording. In the next few posts I intend to offer you a few great rarities of Japanese musicians recorded only on the vinyl.
