In 1976, former Dzyan members drummer Peter Giger and guitarist/zaz player Eddy Marron teamed up with jazz bassist Günter Lenz to record two stellar, but very obscure, jazz oriented records "Beyond" (77) and "Where The Hammer Hangs" (78). The sound is not quite as experimental as Dzyan (what is?) but the group qualify as really well done fusion with some interesting twists with time changes, and different moods conveyed with Marron's tasty guitar, Lenz's probing bass, and Giger's flowery percussion.

To Skye............. I want a pleasant listening..... Enjoy !!!

If you find it, buy this album!

    1. Wow, that would be great Vitko! Given the quality of this music, it's a pity both of these albums have become such rarities. I'd have been happy if they could have realeased a dozen albums like this, but it's lucky to have what they were able to release.

  4. I like the record, especially Günter Lenz bass playing. I think he is (was) always underrated, unfortunatley standing in the shadow of Eberhard Weber. This record shows what a fine player he is. A nice record indeed and as always a wonderful rip.

They did. According Discogs released in 1978 as Någarå ‎– mix 1015 n.

  6. Dear Vitko,

Thank you very much for sharing this album in the quality it deserves, and please forgive my delayed response to your posting here.

I love this album, too, especially the heavy "Quinar", which reminds me a bit of King Crimson with Bill Bruford. Though Giger seems to be the main star, Marron and Lenz really impress as well, switching off electric and acoustic instruments from track to track with such versatility.

I consider the follow-up album "Where the Hammer Hangs" to be equal to this one, if not slightly better, so please, if you do get your hands on it, I would be overjoyed to see it shared here.

    Gratefully, yours truly,

    Skye

  7. Thank you for the focus on this great group, and quoting me in the blurb below the photos. I tried in vain to have the group added to the Prog Archives data base under fusion. GLM are one of my all time favorite groups, second only to Triumvirat. Both of their albums are masterpieces, and wish they would appear on CD. Peter Giger told me they may appear in the future, but he is not certain. Thanks, again! presdoug (Doug Rea)

    1. My respect and thanks for the comment. Soon on my blog I will release their second album, as well as some of the old, long forgotten works of the ingenious Peter Giger. I hope Mr. Giger will have no objection. This is the only way to give younger generations the opportunity to listen to the highly creative music that we have grown up with.
      Cheers!

  10. Dear Vitko,

Thanks very much again for sharing your good work; I've enjoyed your excellent transfer of this wonderful album many times since! I'd still like very much to hear Where the Hammer Hangs, if you ever have the time to make a rip of that too.

    Best wishes,

    Skye

  11. Hello,
seeing as you're posting a lot of rare stuff featuring Peter Giger, I wonder if anyone has the Peter Giger - Family of Percussion album to share? That's the first one, with all the drums on the front (1976, repressed 1979). I have found most of the tracks here and there, all except one. I have also tried to contact Peter himself to ask about making this available, and I never got a reply.

  12. I personally don't have that album, but I will inquire a little bit about it ....
