JAN BERAN – electronics
The devices used for the composition:
Yamaha DX 7, Yamaha TX 816, Oberheim Expander
Yamaha RX 11, Yamaha QX 1, Yamaha CX 5
Warped, asynchronous, mid-80s FM Synthesis assemblages, captured at the absolute cusp of the Analogue-Digital transition, from Czech-Swiss Composer Jan Beran.
But ah, the times, the times. After a few careful listens & a decade+ of consistently softened sensibilities I've relented..... I give you a multitude of small sounds, 6-operator particles, each with their own distinct trajectories. I get why this was such a mystery to so many that sought it, and how unlike anything from its era, before, or beyond it truly is.
Four short "Etüdes", each with their own personality and timbral spec, bookended by the lengthier "Aniseikonia" & "Zeitsplitter".
If you find it, buy this album!

ReplyDeleteThank-you very much - completely unknown to me!
ReplyDeleteI am not familiar with this type of music. So I can't make any comparisons with music from other artists of this genre. Somehow this music sounds familiar to me. Familiar and old-fashioned too. It reminds me of old computers, floppy discs. Fascinating sounds. Definitely worth listening to. Thank you Vitko for the first of the four new albums you've uploaded for us. I'm curious about the other three.
ReplyDeleteUwe
Great job, Vitko, many thanks
ReplyDeleteThank you Vitko, I read Beran studied physics, which come across in his music. Very precise, like an equation :-)
ReplyDeleteStrangely, I expected that this could be some difficult album, however, regardless of the present electronics in larger quantities, it is very melodic and I caught myself really enjoying ... Bravura!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this new experience ...!
I found this very reminiscent of Zappa's Civilization Phaze III.
ReplyDeleteThank you, this music is awesome.
ReplyDeleteO, where do you find them? Another marvel from DPIMR!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much
ReplyDeleteMany thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks!!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a science fiction future. Intriguing. Thanks Vitko.
ReplyDeleteThanks Vitko!!
ReplyDeletespecial, thank you Vitko.
ReplyDeleteAniseikonia is when the eyeglass prescription is quite a bit different in the right and left eye, and sometimes in one meridian more so than others, like 180 degrees but not 90degrees. In glasses, since they sit away from the eye unlike contact lenses, this makes the image size different in the two eyes and as a person looks around in areas of the lenses not in the optical center this magnification difference can shift around making parts of the visual field seem to be changing or moving. Looking at Beran's picture and if he did have a background in physics I wonder if he did have aniseikonia and worked on the optical problems of designing a lens in the pre-digital optical surfacing days. The music to me does sound like the circuits of the brain trying to reconcile the images of the two eyes with the tactile feedback of his body moving in the environment. It's similar to the problems they have with the virtual reality googles. So, ha ha, put your glasses on upside down and move your head around while listening to maybe get insight into aniseikonia.
ReplyDeletethanks for this totally unknown album. as always, top quality.
ReplyDeleteI dint knew this one.
ReplyDeleteThank yo very much!
Sincerely
