In Bled 1960. held the first Yugoslav Jazz Festival, which will later move to Ljubljana. For affirmation of jazz in the seventies (in this region) most significant were the "Zagreb Jazz Fair" and "Belgrade Jazz Festival", and the eighties: "Naissus Jazz Festival" (Niš), "Belgrade Summer Festival", and jazz festivals in Skopje and Novi Sad.

Enjoy this very rare double LP from ex-Yugoslavia:

  2. They all look so young. This DLP contains some pretty early Bennie Wallace. Thanks, Vitko!

  3. Great share! Rarely I'm able to get a lossless rip of a Jugoton (Jazz) LP (or the few Jazz LPs from other Yugoslavian lables).
Or - for that matter - a LP itself.
    Thank you very much, Vitko.
Or as they would say in former Yugoslavia : "Hvala lijepo".

    1. Ha ..? ... Bravo. Thanks onxidlib.
Here now I will make you happy, right now preparing another very rare treat, produced by RTB. It will be three related LPs from 1960/'61. You'll see, very good jazz.
      Cheers.

    2. This is an exciting prospect.
About twenty years ago I saw and heard a trio (bass, guitar and drums) - playing Jimi Hendrix songs in a Jazz style - at the harbour of Split.
It was a very good concert I recall.
Sadly the few music-shops in Split did not have any LPs with Yugoslavian Jazz. Also the market tenders outside of the Diocletian Palace did not sell Jazz LPs (only Pop music...).
Although I tried to find some Jazz Split does not seem to be a place with many Jazz fans (most probably I'm wrong - šta znam ja! skoro ništa, vjerojatno ;-)).
At least I haven't found any. But my family and friends there are not so much into Jazz.
Maybe I should go to Zagreb or Belgrad and have a look there. But I assume the LPs would be quiet expensive nowadays...

    3. Yes, probably you did not looking in the right place. You know this jazz that interests us is recorded half a century ago and today is an exceptional value (a rarity), because there have been no subsequent reissues. I did a little digging on the internet and I was astonished. The prices of these LPs are between 120-400 euros. So, unless you're not someone with too much money, it is impossible in this way to get to these and similar vinyl editions. But because there are everywhere in the world the Stores with old things, many street fairs which sell all sorts of things, flea markets, etc., etc. In such places sometimes run into big things for little money. Another option are friends who own a copy at what you want, then there is, of course, all a matter of agreement. Usually being exchanged links, because none of us wants to be separated from their valuables. But and that's a big thing, you've got music to enjoy.
I remember when I was a young art student, there were about ten of us friends, lovers of progressive rock and jazz, and from its modest financial condition could buy only one LP per month. But we have developed tactics, everyone bought a different album, and if we were ten, we immediately had ten LPs to enjoy. Then we worked dubbing on, if you remember, huge BASF's rings with the magnetic tapes. I have those tapes today and in very good condition.

    4. Vitko, it is rare LP but those prices on net a funny. I bought last summer this LP in Zagreb secondhand vinyl shop for 20 Euros (nearmint/mint condition-think it was never played). There always be people who will want easy money. Otherwise it is nice LP.

    5. Now you see why it should always be well informed. I was shocked when I saw the prices of individual LPs on the Internet. Over ebay price of this 2LP is US $ 187.99, and the 9TH INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVAL LJUBLJANA '68 (RARE EXYU PRESS LP, Helidon) amounts to US $ 159.99 and so on. So I'm talking about the original YU press. Copies which are printed elsewhere (other state) are much cheaper and less interesting for collectors. But we ordinary mortals we are satisfied if we find a cheaper edition. I'm a large number of old, today a truly LPs rarities, bought a long time ago for their normal prices and today I am very proud of my collection.
      Regards.

    6. Hi Vitko, I`m talking about original Jugoton "4. INTERNATIONAL ZAGREB JAZZ FAIR 1982 – SOUL STREET LSY-65045/6" edition. I don`t even think that there is a cheaper unofficial repress of this record. Sometimes you can be very lucky and get some nice and rare record for not so big price. Sometimes the prices are just to high. Mostly will spend app. 70 euros for really rare record in a NM/M condition. Have a nice day.

    7. Well, yes, you're right, it all depends on how lucky you are. I'm just drawing attention to those insane prices of individual LPs. Of them really have a headache. I've talked about this above, of course that there are places and methods how to get to the original copy for relatively little money.
      All the best.

  6. What a wonderful surprise! I haven't seen this in years. Many thanks, Vitko.

Since I lived in Yugoslavia, now in Croatia, maybe I can help here. Unfortunately, during the war in Yugoslavia the situation was bad for me so I had to leave behind almost entire my vinyl collection (among other things). So, if you are interested I can offer what I have.
